Government of Ghana Settles DDEP Bondholders through Payment-In-Cash (PIC) coupon of GH56.081 billion to all Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) bondholders. President Mahama directs Ministry of Finance to settle DDEP Coupons and build debt buffers through Sinking Fund. Following a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, the Ministry of Finance has today, 17th February 2025, honoured the Payment-In-Cash (PIC) coupon of GH56.081 billion to all Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) bondholders. Government has also honoured the Payment-In-Kind (PIK) portion of GHS3.46 billion, deposited into the respective bondholders' securities accounts in line with the DDEP Memorandum. Additionally, Government has also paid into the Debt Service Recovery Cedi Account (Sinking Fund) an amount of GHS9.7 billion as a buffer for the 5th DDEP coupon that will fall due in July and August, 2025. Government Commences Salary Negotiations for Public Sector Workers. TRIPARTITE COMMITTEE COMMENCES WAGE NEGOTIATIONS. The National Tripartite Committee, represented by Government, Employers, and Organised Labour/Associations, commenced negotiations on the determination of the 2025 Minimum Wage yesterday, Monday, February 03, 2025. Negotiations for base pay (public sector salaries) will follow that of the minimum wage. Given that negations for both the minimum wage and the base pay for the 2025 financial year are behind schedule - as they were expected to be completed by the end of April 2024, per the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act-Government is calling on social partners (government, employers, organised labour) to work expeditiously to complete the negotiations in time to inform the 2025 Budget. Shama: Class 5 pupil allegedly commits suicide over mum’s refusal to give him food as punishment Residents of Abuesi, a community in the Shama District of the Western Region have been thrown into a state of shock after news of a 14-year-old year old boy who is alleged to have committed suicide reached them. The victim, John Yawson, a Class 5 pupil of the Alliance International School in Shama was said to have hanged himself in an uncompleted building in the neighbourhood which belongs to his father. The lifeless body of the deceased, popularly known as Egya Koyo, is reported to have been found hanging aided by a rope in the uncompleted building. Some residents in the community alleged that the deceased had offended his mother and had been denied food the previous day, a decision that forced him to commit the act. The Speaker of the house has suspended them for two weeks immediately because of the brawl that happened yesterday Thursday, 30th January 2025 over the vetting of already invited nominee for Foreign Affairs Ministry, Sam Okudjeto Ablakwa, the current MP for North Tongu Constituency. Hon Tampuli and Hon Jerry Ahmed has also been suspended alongside the others involved in the incident that happened yesterday.
