Shama: Class 5 pupil allegedly commits suicide over mum’s refusal to give him food as punishment Residents of Abuesi, a community in the Shama District of the Western Region have been thrown into a state of shock after news of a 14-year-old year old boy who is alleged to have committed suicide reached them. The victim, John Yawson, a Class 5 pupil of the Alliance International School in Shama was said to have hanged himself in an uncompleted building in the neighbourhood which belongs to his father. The lifeless body of the deceased, popularly known as Egya Koyo, is reported to have been found hanging aided by a rope in the uncompleted building. Some residents in the community alleged that the deceased had offended his mother and had been denied food the previous day, a decision that forced him to commit the act. The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) wishes to inform all learners, teachers, and stakeholders in the education sector that the literature book titled The Beacon of Light, authored by Joshlyn Yayra Diabo, Adam Ankrah, Bryte Okrah, and Lucas Zanyoh has been officially approved as the prescribed literature text for Junior High Schools across the country.  An additional resource that accompanies the book is The Beacon of Light Commentary, authored by Victoria Stevens, Dr. Jemima Larteley Mensah and Very Rev. Meet Ghana's First Female Physics Professor

 Meet Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, The First Female Physics Professor at the University Of Ghana. Nana Ama Browne Klutse was born on 23 May 1981 at Nyanfeku Ekroful, Ghana. She had her primary education at the Anomabo Methodist Primary and JHS. She continued to Mfantsiman Girls Secondary school and later went to the University of Cape Coast in MFANTSEMAN to read BSc Physics. She pursued her PhD in Climatology at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Klutse studies climate dynamics of West Africa. Her work focuses on climate science and development specifically on the African monsoon. She is Professor and the Head of the Department of Physics, University of Ghana. In the past, she managed the Remote Sensing and Climate Centre. Klutse is a Climate Science Fellow of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences and a lead author contributing to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6).
