In a significant move towards resolving salary discrepancies, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has confirmed the long-awaited migration of Colleges of Educationstaff to the University grade structure. This development follows extensive negotiations, governmental interventions, and the determined efforts of all stakeholders involved.

Migration Committee Formation:

The government responded to the National Labour Commission (NLC) directive by forming a Migration Committee on August 29, 2024.

This committee included representatives from:

Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC)

Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC)

Ministry of Finance (MOF)

Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD)

Ministry of Education (MOE)

Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF).













January 2025 Payment Window:

The migration process culminated in the inclusion of CETAG members in the public universities’ grade structure. Payments reflecting the changes were disbursed during the January 2025 payment cycle.

Research Allowance Top-Up:

Research allowances for all Colleges of Education staff have also been processed, with Akrokerri College of Education’s pending payment nearing completion.


Recognition for Collaborative Efforts

The FWSC commended the tireless work of GTEC, MOF, MOE, CAGD, and PRINCOF in resolving this matter. The commission expressed gratitude for the collective dedication to addressing CETAG’s concerns.

Call for Strike Suspension

In light of the progress made, the FWSC has urged CETAG to suspend its strike to allow academic activities to resume. The government has assured that it remains committed to addressing any post-migration challenges that may arise.
