About 37 Military Hospital

The 37 Military Hospital, nestled in Accra, Ghana, stands as a bastion of medical care, tracing its origins back to 1941.

Founded by General George Giffard during the turmoil of World War II, it initially served as a haven for wounded soldiers, earning the moniker “No. 37 General Hospital.” Over the years, it metamorphosed into the renowned institution it is today, boasting 700 beds and a wide array of specialized services.

Its significance transcends mere healthcare provision; it embodies a rich historical narrative, symbolized by its name, derived from being the 37th military hospital erected in the British colony of West Africa.

This historical lineage is further exemplified by its pivotal role during critical junctures in Ghana’s history, such as the 2015 Accra explosion and floods, where it valiantly rose to the challenge despite overwhelming odds.
